A Slice of Liturgical Life

This page is dedicated to the liturgical Catholic calendar and the various seasons (Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter) and feast days our family has celebrated in the past. Similar to our traditional calendars that are marked with four seasons, 12 months, 365 days, holidays and celebrations, the liturgical year is also marked with special seasons and feast days. This page is a summary of the seasons and feast days our family has celebrated since I started blogging in June 2010 and it is a ongoing work in progress.

The difference between our traditional 12 month calendar and the liturgical Catholic calendar is summed up well from Cyberfaith, "The purpose of the Liturgical Year Calendar is not to mark the passage of time, but to celebrate and understand more fully the entire mystery of Jesus Christ, from his incarnation and birth until his ascension, the day of Pentecost, and the expectation of his return in glory. During the course of a year, the paschal mystery-the passion, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus-is viewed from different angles, in different lights."

Some of our liturgical year celebrations have been small and simple, while others are more elaborate. But, no matter how simple or grand one celebrates our faith, the important part is that it is a faith-filled and fun time to embrace, cherish and celebrate the beauty and treasures of our Catholic faith in order to grow in personal holiness and evangelize to all the nations.
