A Simple Baptism Anniversary Celebration!

This post contains affiliate links.

Today, July 9th, was our oldest daughter's Baptism Anniversary!  We have been consistently inconsistent with remembering to celebrate each child's baptism day, but today we made it happen.  :)

I posted on my Instagram and Facebook pages with this comment:

Happy Baptism Anniversary to our oldest! On 7-9-2000, she became a part of God's family and Church. She gets to pick a dessert and eat off the "special" plate. Since her Confirmation Saint was St. Cecilia, we got the St. Cecilia Shining Light Doll to add to our collection. And each of my children have an engraved baptism candle holder with their name and baptism date that my parents gave each of my kids.

The special plate that my two oldest fought over on the day my daughter turned 17 and my son was confirmed. :)

The engraved candle holders make such practical and meaningful Baptism gifts that I have given them to others for gifts!

I displayed the scrapbook page I made for my daughter with photos from her baptism day.

Here is a close up of the engraved name ("Rachel Anne") and baptism date (7-9-00)

Our 3 year old loves these Shining Light Dolls, but I think I like them more! :)

So for our simple celebration we lit her baptism candle, sang "Happy Baptism Day to you!" and she got to pick what she wanted for dinner and which dessert.  We also talked about what our baptism means and why it's such a special day to celebrate.

Do you celebrate your child's baptism day? I never celebrated mine growing up in our Catholic home, but it's been fun celebrating my kids' special day!

"I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

1st Birthday Celebration, Baptism, Big Planes

Last week our youngest turned the BIG ONE and I wrote her birthday tribute post HERE.

We celebrated her birthday with family last Wednesday, July 30th, her actual birthday date.  We left the next day for PA to visit friends and my sister's family for my nephew's baptism.

Here is my Mom giving our Cupcake #5 the stuffed animals that my Mom knitted for her granddaughter.  My Mom is super talented and I so want to learn how to do this (in my "spare" time-Ha!).  My Mom said this teddy bear, frog, and skunk were not that difficult to make.

Here is the cake I made for our big ray of sunshine..turning one and having fun with our sun(shine)!  The chocolate cake mix was from the Hershey's Cocoa container and then I made a homemade cream cheese icing tinted with yellow and orange food dye.

Here's a short video of our family, my in-laws, and my two brother in-laws' families singing "Happy Birthday".  ( I always have technical difficulties downloading videos, so if you can't see the video below, sorry about that and maybe it will download the right way magically somehow!)  I have to explain the knife throwing part, however.  It is a family tradition to "throw" the cake knife into the cake and wherever it lands that's where the cut cutting begins.  This is highly supervised and great fun as you hear my mother-in-law in the background telling my husband to basically be careful by repeating his name more than once. :)

She enjoyed her cake so much and so did her hair!  :)

After our birthday girl got all cleaned up, I snapped this sweet moment that she was sharing with my father-in law.

The next morning, Thursday, July 31, we left bright and early (as in 5:15 AM) to travel to PA (about 10 hours) to go stay with friends and visit my sister. My sister's little baby boy was baptized this past weekend and I was the Godmother, while my brother-in laws good friend was the Godfather.  During a cookout prior to the day of the baptism, my sister had another cake and ice cream sundaes ready to celebrate our girl's 1st birthday.   Here are some pictures of the fun weekend!

I gave my nephew and Godson the baptism candle holder where I had his name engraved in it with his baptism date.  I did not make the cake.  :)  The christening gown hanging up was made by my great grandmother on my Mom's side and it is 70 + years old.  This gown was worn by my Mom and her brother during their infant baptism, along with all my cousins, siblings, and my children.  Our little Cupcake #5 wore it as well last year.

My "Cupcake" Crew

On our way home from PA on Monday we stopped in DC for a family field trip.  What an amazing place the National Air & Space Museum is to visit!  Free admission, but parking is $15 :/   It was "plane heaven" full of such wonderful aviation history!
I overheard a tour guide say that the Blackbird" plane above cost $85,000/day to fuel it!  WOW!

The kids got to operate a plane's steering wheel and we learned more about he Enola Gay, that dropped an atomic bomb on the military port of Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945.

This was great to see the Discovery space shuttle up close.  In the front of the shuttle we could see how much insulation was used on it to prevent it from melting as it went to space and back down.  Just amazing!

It was a blessed weekend with family and friends! Thanks for stopping in!

Blessings Abounded at our Baby's Baptism

On Saturday, August 31, 2013, we baptized our newest addition to the Smith family!  In our Catholic faith, we baptize infants into God's family.  For more information on infant baptism in the Catholic Church go HERE and HERE

Here are some photos that my Dad took of our sweet ones special and faith-filled day!  I can't thank my Dad enough for capturing another one of our family's celebrations on camera!  We are so grateful for his wonderful gift of photography!
On the left side is the 70 year old christening gown hanging up that was hand-made by Leah's great, great grandmother.  My mom and her brother wore the gown as infants at their baptism and it has been passed down ever since.  My siblings, cousins, and I wore it at our baptism and now my children have worn it.  My son had blue long ribbons on the gown when he was baptized and at Leah's baptism he exclaimed, "I wore a dress at my baptism!" :)   On the right side is Leah modeling the beautiful gown.
"Leah, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

This is one of our family's favorite pictures of Fr. Alex holding and kissing our little Leah.  We are blessed to know such a wonderful priest who loves all his "children" and who loves homeschool families!
Fr. Alex gave Leah a holy oil "bath".  You could smell her holiness for days afterward!  :)

My parents, in-laws and families from our homeschool group who were able to attend the baptism.

Our family with Leah's Godparents and their family.  They also have the last name of Smith, but we aren't related.  Cameron Smith, Leah's Godfather, is the Catholic artist that did the amazing and beautiful print of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (shown at the top of my blog on my blog header) and Immaculate Heart of Mary.  You can view and order both prints HERE

In the top right corner are pictured my parents on the left and my in-laws on the right

Leah's Godparents are beautiful inside and out!

Leah was not too impressed with cutting her cake as she dozes off in the middle of cake cutting! :) My 13 year old cupcake wrote "Welcome to Leah's Baptism Reception" on our driveway with chalk to welcome our guests to our house for the reception.  The cake says "God Bless You Leah on your Baptism."

It was a beautiful and blessed day filled with special graces, family, and friends!

Thank you for stopping by my corner of blog land to allow me to share this joyous occasion with you!

God bless!

Happy Baptism Day !

I am thankful that each year we celebrate the day each of our children were baptized as infants into our Catholic faith.  We have always celebrated this special day in their faith journey, but this article,  A Universal Call to Party:  A New Family Tradition, from The Word Among Us publication has given our family great ideas to keep this tradition alive and fun!  I found this article in 2006 and have been using it as a reference for each baptism anniversary.  To remember each baptism anniversary, each of my children have a gold/silver platted candle stick holder with their name and baptism date engraved in it.  This has been a meaningful and great way to remember yet another important date in our families' lives!

So on Thursday, November 18, we celebrated our son's baptismal day with dinner as a family, lighting his baptism candle, singing "Happy Baptism Day to You", reading Scripture passages related to the sacrament of Baptism (Matthew 19: 13-15, John 3:5, and Mark 1:9-11), as a family we renewed our baptismal promises, and then we concluded with an "Our Father" before we ate our dessert to celebrate his special day.  This year our children recited the "Our Father" in Latin ("Pater Noster") since we have been learning it in our homeschool days.  It's amazing how much my children retain with only 10 minutes of Latin vocabulary each day!

Happy Baptism Day to our son!
