Our "Handy" CHRISTmas Tree Skirt

For a few years, I was looking for a tree skirt to place under our CHRISTmas tree, but I didn't want to spend alot of money and I wanted something special.  So when I saw my friend's tree skirt idea, I knew this was the one I wanted to place under my tree each year!

I bought a big piece of white felt from a local fabric store and cut it in a circle with a slit down the middle with a small circle in the center like this:

Then in 2008 when I began this tradition, I had each of my children use red or green paint to make one handprint each around the bottom of the skirt.  I then took a fabric crayon/marker and wrote the year above each hand and the child's name.  So for our family, we add four new handprints each year.

Here is a close up of the skirt and I have covered my children's names for privacy:

Each year that we pull out the skirt my children like to compare their hands to see how everyone has grown! We look forward to this fun activity each CHRISTmas and I love the fact that this didn't cost too much and the memories and artwork are priceless!

I am linking this "handy" and fun CHRISTmas activity up to Kylie's "World Wide Classroom" CHRISTmas Fun Party Week Two.  If you want to read great posts and link up your ideas to spread good cheer and fun, visit World Wide Classroom!

I give Joy to the World when I preserve my children's handprints and teach my children how to have loving and praying hands so they too can continue to give Joy to the World!

Loving this idea Tracy. We don't have a Tree Skirt but I think you have just persuaded me to get organised with one. Thank you. :-)

I started this tradition about 10 years ago with my older two but used a cheap felt tree skirt and it didn't hold up well. :-( After several years I planned to try to start on a new skirt and cut out and transfer the handprints I had, but I never did it. You're motivating me to pull it back out and try to get it going again!

What a really neat idea, and what a beautiful tree. I have to get mine up still. Maybe CHRISTmas eve the way I'm going. lol I voted for you. Have a great day.

Hi Kara! I hope you find time to continue the tradition with the handprints :) Thanks for your visit and comment!

Hi Lynda!
If it makes you feel any better, we are technically still in the Advent season and not Christmas. The 12 days of Christmas are from Christmas Day until Jan. 6, the Epiphany, when we celebrate when the wise men came to visit Jesus. So....you're not late with the tree set up, after all :) Thanks for your visit, comment and continued support! :)

What a great idea for seeing how the children grow over the years. Wish I had thought of it:)

Hi Anna-Marie!
I wish I had started it when our youngest was a newborn, although it would have been difficult to have made her little handprint. Have a great day!

Hi! I loved your idea of this Christmas Tree skirt! I will share it on my blog! Also, I was so glad to see the image of the Sacred Heart! I just bought it this year! As well as the Immaculate Heart of Mary!! God bless!!

Hi Xhonane!
