Fun Weekend: Scouts, Soccer, School Celebration

This past weekend was a busy, fun, and memorable one! It started out on Friday night with my son's Graduation/Cross over ceremony to Boy Scouts, and then my husband coached my son's soccer team in a Sand Blast Soccer Tournament all day Saturday and Sunday and then on Sunday evening we had our homeschool end of the year party! Here's some pictures of our wonderful weekend!

My son received his Arrow of Light and all 20 pins! This was handmade by the Nelsons, parents of one of our scouts, for each scout that crossed over into Boy Scouts. T. and S. Nelson did an awesome job! The Arrow of Light award is the highest award before entering into Boy Scouts and the arrow at the bottom of the plaque is a record of all the awards they earned while in Cub Scouts.

At the end of the ceremony, each scout got in a canoe and went to the other side of the lake where they met up with the leader of the Boy Scout Troop they were entering. Each Troop leader was asked if they were ready to receive the new scout.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, my husband coached my son and 5 other boys in a Sand Blast soccer tournament at a local beach. Yes, they play in the sand (hard work!) with socks, 4 vs. 4, (3) 10 minute periods were the length of the games, and lots of other rules. It was a great weekend and the weather on the beach wasn't too bad, although Sunday did get hot!

My son's team won 1st place in their age division! "The Avengers" took home the gold! It was hard to tell who had more fun, the boys or my husband and the other Dads that helped coach! :)

Then on Sunday evening we had our annual homeschool end of year pool party at a family's neighborhood pool. It was a great evening of food, fun, and fellowship. I didn't take many pictures because after a busy weekend I was ready to relax and visit with the parents (and keep an eye on all the children swimming in the pool!)

We were blessed to have Fr. Alex, who has worked with our homeschool families this past year, hand out certificates for each child. We had about 60 people in attendance and everyone had fun swimming!

Religious Emblem for Boy Scouts and First Reconciliation

Another busy week means lots of hustle and bustle and blessings, but it also means less posts on my little corner of blog land here....But, I thought I would highlight a few big celebrations we had this past week with Cupcake #2 and #3 :)

Last Sunday, February 5, was Scout Sunday, and Scout Sunday is celebrated each year on or around the founding date of Boy Scouts, February 8, 1910. Since this past fall, my son and our family have been working on his religious emblem, called "Parvuli Dei" (Children of God). Each faith denomination has it's own religious emblem and Parvuli Dei is the Catholic religious award. We used a booklet called Parvuli Dei and worked on activities to complete the program and on Scout Sunday he was presented with his award. Here is a picture of the emblem pinned to his scout shirt.

This past Wednesday, Feb. 8, my daughter received her First Reconciliation with some of the other children in our homeschool group. So this was the first time she experienced the graces, peace and joy of this beautiful sacrament! It was a blessed day!

Our homeschool group is blessed with Fr. Alex, a holy man who invests much time, support, and smiles for our homeschool families and children.

So many blessings this past week and we are grateful for our faith, family, and above all, God's mercy and forgiveness!

A Great Year in Cub Scouts!

Earlier this year, my son participated in his Pack's Pinewood Derby race in Boy Scouts. If you aren't familiar with the Pinewood Derby race, it's when each boy gets a block of wood and 4 wheels and then they cut the wood (with the help of parents, of course) to make a car and then the cars are raced against one another. My son enjoys spending time with my hubby to design and make the car and then paint it. It is a time consuming process and there are a bunch of rules and regulations, but it has been a fun experience for my son.

For the second year in a row, my son's car came in first for his Den and first overall for his entire Pack. Here is my son's car during one of the races. His is the red one on the far left of the track.

My son was a very excited to get the 1st place trophy for his winning car for his Pack!

Since he won in his local Pack, he qualified for the District race which was against all the Packs' cars in our local area.

My son's car is the red one on the far left as it gets ready to race in one of many rounds. The process to race all the cars is time consuming, and exciting at the same time.

In the District race, my son's car came in 3rd overall against all the cars in his Den in the county! He was very excited to place in the competitive derby!

After my daughter's 11th birthday party this past weekend, we headed to my son's Cub Scout Graduation ceremony where my son graduated from WEEBLOS I to WEEBLOS II. At the beginning of the ceremony he wore his blue shirt that he has worn for several years:

Then during the ceremony each boy changed into his tan Boy Scout shirt and crossed over the bridge to a higher rank in Scouts. Here is my son with his tan shirt walking across the bridge:

My son has enjoyed his many years in Cub Scouts so far and we are proud of all his accomplishments! Can you tell? :)
